Accomplishments

 

The WMCDC is governed by an independent Board of Directors with representation from Housing Providers and Social Service providers.  The Internal Revenue Service has recognized the WMCDC as an independent 501 (C ) (3 ) corporation.

Walker Montgomery C.D.C. (WMCDC) has made considerable progress in developing internal capacity to develop affordable housing in small towns and rural areas in its twenty-two (22) year history. WMCDC’s accomplishments include:

Home Construction

Completed construction of forty-three (43) affordable and energy-efficient homes for sale to low and moderate income individuals and families, office space for its own operation and an office for operations of Brazos Valley Community Development Corporation.

Department of Labor Sub Award

Received a U.S. Department of Labor sub-award grant for a demonstration program to train youthful offenders in construction skills.

Completed YouthBuild Grants

Successfully competed for ten (10) YouthBuild grants through which youth have received training in construction skills.   78% of all enrollees have obtained employment and/or returned to school upon completion of the YouthBuild program.

Down Payment Assistance

Developed capacity to provide down payment assistance for low-income families.

Obtained Contracts

Obtained contracts with Brazos Valley Workforce Board to train and employ disadvantaged youth from Grimes County to work on housing construction in Navasota, Texas.

In recognition of its achievements, WMCDC was named as the Developer of the Year by Region 6 Rural Development division of the USDA and as Employer of the Year by Brazos Valley Workforce Development Board.
